Switchback Travel, a top adventure website based in Boulder, Colorado, is seeking to grow its team. They're looking for individuals who are passionate and knowledgeable about the outdoors, have strong writing and communication skills, pay close attention to detail, and understand the voice of Switchback Travel.
About the Role
AllGear Digital is hiring an editor for Switchback Travel, the leading online publication dedicated to outdoor gear guides and reviews. This is a 40-hour contract role with the potential to become a salaried position with benefits in about 6 months. The role is remote, and they prefer someone in Washington State. The expected yearly pay for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000, depending on skills, experience, and location.
Who They're Looking For
-You have at least 2 years of professional editorial and writing experience.
-You're passionate and knowledgeable about the outdoors and outdoor gear, including ultralight backpacking equipment, camp and ski gear, and mountain biking gear.
-You're a self-starter who is excited about taking on intensive, multifaceted projects and long-form content.
-You're comfortable working remotely and have access to reliable internet.
-You have a high attention to detail and can spot grammatical and factual errors.
-You're a quick learner with an adaptable style and willingness to take on a variety of projects.
-You have experience in photography and can take high-quality photos of the gear that you use.
-You're a team player and are interested in becoming a part of our gear-centric family.
The Position
Detailed gear guides are what they do at Switchback Travel. They're looking to expand their coverage with additional round-ups covering a range of categories, including ultralight backpacking gear, budget backpacking gear, camping gear, and more. Your job will be to learn their style and processes, test gear, and write new articles based on your findings and experiences.
As a small team, they wear many hats. The ideal candidate will be expected to do a fair share of editing, participate in market research and site planning, edit photos and build pages, write in-depth gear reviews, and more.
