So, when I tell you about a platform that can realistically bring in $200 a month if you approach it systematically and commit for a few months, it might sound underwhelming. But that's the point. This site has been around for a while, operating quietly, and it’s one of the best-kept secrets for genuine passive income.
The Problem: Strict Print Standards
Here’s the catch: Displate has strict print standards. If your art isn't prepared properly, it simply won't get approved. I learned this the hard way, uploading images straight from my computer only to be rejected for low resolution and incorrect formatting.

1. Create Your Artwork

2. Check the Image Requirements
These numbers are non-negotiable and are the reason most submissions fail:

Load your file, choose the four times or six times multiplier your math dictates, and let the AI rebuild the details. This gives you a crisp, high-resolution base image, and it is completely free to use.
4. Increase DPI Using Imgcandy
Even after upscaling, the DPI (Dots Per Inch) might still be too low. You need a minimum of 300 DPI. Upload the upscaled image to imgcandy.com and use their free DPI converter to set the value to at least 300. This tool is a lifesaver, as it often gives you the final image while keeping the file size well under the 30 MB limit.
5. Upload to Displate
Log into your Displate account and click Upload Artwork. This is your chance to shine:
- Title: Create a strong, keyword-rich title (e.g., "Moonlit Forest — Mystical Fantasy Wall Art" works better than "Cool Picture 1").
- Description and Tags: Add a clear description and relevant tags. While Displate offers automated suggestions, always tweak them to be more specific and engaging for search.
After submitting, wait. Approval usually takes a day, but it can occasionally stretch up to a week. You are currently allowed to upload 10 images per day.
6. Promote Your Work
Displate has built-in traffic, but waiting for buyers is a passive strategy. An active strategy means promoting your work. Share your Displate shop link, post mockups on Instagram or Pinterest, and join relevant niche communities (Reddit, Discord). Use keywords that match your style—people really do search for "space minimalist poster" or "dark academia wall art" before they buy. The more effort you put into promotion, the faster you'll reach that $200 goal.
